2019 Hokkaido Selection Sale

On July 16th at the Hokkaido Sales Pavilion in Shizunai, Hokkaido, the 2019 renewal of the Selection Sale will be offering a catalog of 242 yearlings. The Selection Sale is the premier sale for the Hokkaido Sale company, providing the best physicals and pedigrees that the Hidaka region has to offer. Monday, July 15th is the exhibition day, followed by the sale on Tuesday, July 16th.

Fifty-five different sire lines will be available this year at the Selection Sale including nine yearlings by Japan's hottest young sire, Lord Kanaloa(JPN). Many of Japan's hottest sires will also be available as well, including one lot by King Kamehameha(JPN), five lots by Just a Way(JPN), ten by Daiwa Major(JPN), four by Heart's Cry(JPN), 10 lots by Harbinger(GB), and 15 lots by Rulership(JPN).

There are plenty of exciting first crop sires coming through the pipes this year in Japan, one of the most influential groups the country has seen in one generation in quite a while. G1 Japanese Derby winner and Champion Three-Year-Old Duramente(JPN), Champion Two-Year-Old Leontes(JPN), two time G1 winner and Champion Older Horse Lovely Day(JPN), six-time G1 winner and Horse of the Year Maurice(JPN), G1 Belmont Stakes winner Creator(USA), two time G1 winner A Shin Hikari(JPN), Champion Two-Year-Old Asia Express(USA), 10 time G1 winner and Champion Dirt Horse Hokko Tarumae(JPN), G1 winner and sire of multiple G1 winners Discreet Cat(USA), G1 winner and sire of multiple G1 winners Makfi(GB).

Two-year-olds have just started debuting in Japan, and several freshman crop sires making an early showing will have a second crop up for sale this summer as well.
G1 Japanese Derby winner Kizuna(JPN) has been the first new sire off the mark not once but twice in the JRA, Real Impact(JPN) has also claimed his first winner in the JRA during the first three weeks of two-year-old racing as well as a win in the NAR circuit as well. Majestic Warrior(USA) and Curren Black Hill(JPN) both have a pair of NAR wins to their name, and Spielberg(JPN) is also off the mark in the NAR. Epiphaneia(JPN) has been a significant player in the sales ring with many hopes pinned on the G1 Japan Cup winner's first crop set to debut this year. Eskendereya(USA) had Mitole(USA) win a very competitive G1 Met Mile in the United States while waiting for his first Japanese offspring to get rolling in Japan. Six-time G1 winner and Champion Three-year-old Gold Ship(JPN) first two-year-olds will debut in the coming months.
